Guest

A very new song.

Where as most of the songs are about something that happened at sea, or something that happened in the past, this song kind of wrote its self.

I'm not as pleased with the vocal as I could be - so I think that needs a bit of work. Its not how I'm used to singing in a way and is a bit droney and flat - but it'll get better.

Bens guitar part was relatively new and untested but I'm thinking it works really well and will be a keeper.

As usual, comments and thoughts appreciated!

Also, I really MUST stop sitting in the most unflattering positions and wearing clothes colours that seem to blend into one, making me look like some kind of crazy, musically gifted hunchback.

Simple Goodbye

This song was written some time ago and never really played.

The levels aren't really right at the end, and I'm sure there are one of two mistakes in there, but its good enough.

Light Another

A totally rough, not nearly finished song.

This one was first played about a year ago - just a random jam by me, Ben and Jena.

I didn't really know how I felt about it but after a few listens, and Bens new guitar part I must confess it has promise... and is damned catchy.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Sad You

This song has gone through a few phases.

At first I worked it out with my siste Lucy (of The Fox and the Bramble) and it worked quite well... but then it seemed to not be suited to the sort of thing we had in mind... we tried rocking it up, giving it a heavy build up, but something still didn't feel right.

So, when I suggested to Ben that we drop it, he suggested we at least try the riff he had in mind for it... and my god did it ever sound good.

So the song is now reborn in its 'almost' original acoustic form.

The plan is to keep it short and sweet - probably just involve me and Ben, and some nice quiet vocals.

A much better recording should hopefully follow soon (tomorrow maybe).

Lyrics of the Sea

Gifts of the Sea

Across the bow
On bended knee
You covered for me
To take me away

We lost a man
Along the way
Harsh blows
Are the gifts of the Sea

Storm tide
No comforting wave
Together we lie there
Together we're brave

Dark night
Chill in the air
Together we lie there
Together we're scared

With a pure heart
And the wind at your back
Before we will travel
Before I must go

We will sail.

First gifts brought by the tide

So our first attempt at recording using a webcam and a crude microphone in a small flat provides this version of Gifts Of The Sea:

It's a bit sketchy and whenever we move we become a blur, which is an odd effect but not necessarily a bad one. What these videos represent is early sketches that give an idea of the song and will hopefully show how our work progresses as time goes on. Hopefully our next session will provide some slightly clearer sound to go with the blurrycam footage.

We Wild Men

And so we wait, for the first flight of the Patient Wild.

As you will see from the page info, me and Ben have now been playing together for some time - our last venture being Q&M - the acoustic project - But after some years of that I felt like going to to a big sounds again.

Until we have found the right combination of musicians (we have tried a few people but none really fit as well as we'd hope, though they were all competent musicians) we shall be playing around the Reading area as an acoustic duo - Myself on guitar and vocals, Ben on Guitar and anything else we think might work.

I shall hopefully update this every other day or so, or whenever we do something worthy of note.

We spent last night mostly recording tunes on the webcam - the quality isn't amazing, but for now you get an idea.

We will hopefully add to this page with a podcast type thing, and put up different riffs and ideas for you, the humble public, to remark upon and give your ideas and suggestions.

Of course, we will have the final say.

Thanks all, and watch this space!
